oz ODTÜ GELİŞTİRME VAKFI ÖZEL OKULUNDAKİ İNGİLİZCE HAZIRLIK YETERLİK DENEME SINAVI GEÇERLİK VE GÜVENİRLİK ÇALIŞMASI Kurtuluş, Ece Yüksek Lisans, Eğitim Bilimleri Bölümü Tez Yöneticisi: Prof. Dr. Giray Berberoğlu Eylül 2002, 66 sayfa Bu çalışmanın amacı Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Geliştirme Vakfı özel ilköğretim okulunda 2000-2001 Eğitim öğretim yılında uygulanan pilot İngilizce yeterlik sınavının geçerlik ve güvenirliğini incelemektir. Bu çalışmaya 2000-2001 Akademik yılında 8. Sınıftaki tüm öğrenciler katılmışlardır. Çalışmada kullanılan veriler ODTÜ Geliştirme Vakfı okulu idaresi onayıyla hazırlık İngilizce yeterlik sınavıdır. Çalışmada deneysel araştırma yöntemleri olan test dağılım çalışması, madde analizi, geçerlik ve güvenirlik analizleri kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonuçlan, testte kullanılan soruların zorluk derecesinin birkaç çok zor ve çok kolay soru dışında bu yaş öğrenci için uygun olduğunu göstermiştir. Ayrıca test amaçlandığı gibi düşük ve yüksek erişi düzeyine sahip öğrencileri ayırmada etkili olmuştur.Test öğrencilerin İngilizce dersinde yeterli sayılabilmesi için gerekli beş ana davranışı (İngilizceyi kullanma, okuma, yazma. Dinleme ve konuşma) kapsamakladır. Sonuç olarak, bu test genel olarak etkili olduğu, ancak testin 8. Sınıflara uygulanan ilk İngilizce yeterlik testi olduğundan testin tam bir başarısından söz etmek için bu konuda daha fazla araştırmaya gerek vardır.

ABSTRACT THE VALIDITY and RELIABILITY STUDY of a PILOT PROFICIENCY [ETU DEVI SCHOOL EXAM in 8th GRADES in METU DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION Kurtuluş, Ece M.S., Department of Educational Sciences Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Giray Berberoğlu September 2002, 66 pages The purpose of this study is to investigate the reliability and validity of the pilot English proficiency test which was applied in Middle East Technical University Development Foundation private high school in June 2001. The source was the 8th grade students who have completed the first eight year Education and ready to start high school Education. For this study, data were gathered through the results of the pilot English proficiency test with the permission of the school administration. To analyse the data, Item Analysis, Reliability and Validity techniques were used along with the test distributions scores. The results of the study revealed that, although there were several very difficult and very easy items, the difficulty level of the test was suitable for that age group. The test also covered some items, which was planned to discriminate between the low, and the high achievers in the test. iiiThe test covered the necessary five skills (Use of English, Reading comprehension, Listening, Writing and Speaking) which was assumed as necessary components for a student in order to be regarded as proficient in English language. In conclusion, although the pilot English proficiency test proved to be effective to a certain extent, it was the first time such a language proficiency test had been implemented. Thus, further research is required on this issue to ensure the complete success of the test.
