SUMMARY Tourism is a social phenomenon which affects a society's philosophy. This project The Participation Of The Families Living In The Borders Of The Greater Municipality Of Ankara To Tourism“ aims to reveal the expectation and choice of the families about tourism because every family is a potential participant of tourism, but the altering world technology and socio-economic and socio-cultural structure of the families affect these choises. Thus presenting the situation of the families in Ankara may be a useful data source for many institutions and for many people. As a matter of fact in seven governmental administrative centers of the Greater Municipality of Ankara such as Altındağ, Çankaya, Etimesgut, Gölbaşı, Keçiören, Mamak and Yenimahalle 986 families have been given questionnaire, and this helped to reveal their situations. As a result, 40% of the families in Ankara earn approximately 250-500 million TL but their in come may vary according to the town they live in. For example 46.5% of the families in Çankaya earn at least 750 million TL, whereas in Mamak 3% earn at least 750 million TL but 43.8% of them earn 0-250 million TL. Families' level of income is a determinant factor for their tourism hoices. For instance the families earning more then 500 or 750 million TL ink that tourism is ”an unavoidable need“ as opposed to the families who gard tourism as ”luxury " with the income between 0-250 or 250-500 illion TL. The difference in their opinion can be seen very deary not only in jeir expenses but also in their accommodation and transportation ferences.
