Özet
Çingeneleri ele alan bu çalışma, eşitliklerimiz ve farklılıklarımızla birlikte yaşama çabası bağlamında, yabancının (Çingenenin), dünyasını 'anlamaya' yönelik bir perspektiften hareket etmektedir. Çingenelerin kültürel özellikleri ve bu özellikleri ekonomik, politik ve ideolojik olarak nasıl kullandıkları ve içinde yaşadıkları toplumsal modelde, örgütlenme ve kendilerini ifade etme noktasında hangi konumda bulundukları çalışmanın temel sorgu alanlarıdır. Çalışma alanı, Bornova Tarlabaşı mahallesidir. Çalışmanın problemleri çerçevesinde; anket, derinlemesine mülakat ve tanıklıklar ile sorgu alanlarına cevap aranmıştır. Bu çerçevede; sosyo-ekonomik yapı, Çingene, Roman ve Gaco'nun (Çingene olmayanın) kim olduğu, diğer Çingene grupları ve kendilerine bakış açıları, kendilerini ifade edip edememeleri ve yaşadıkları çevreyi nasıl algıladıkları, temel sorunları, geleceğe bakış açıları ve geçmişin izleri irdelenmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçları bağlamında; Çingenelerin yabancılığı içselleştirmesi, tarihsel dışlanma bilinçleri, marjinal işlerde varolma, birlikte çalışma tercihi, güçlü biz ve diğeri ayrımı, ortak yaşam tercihi, iç dayanışma ve dış grupla sınırlı iletişim gibi özellikleri Çingeneleri tanıma ve anlamada temel parametreleri oluşturmuştur. 214

This study which handles the Gypsies settled in Bornova, begins from the standpoint that looks through the Gypsies as strangers with our equalities and differences, and attempts to understand their world(view). The main emphasis on the cultural pecularities of the Gypsies and the way they handle these pecularities economicaly, politically and ideologically. This study also elucidates how they are organised in society where they live and how they express themselves in the society as individuals. The Gypsies who live in Tarlabaşı-Bornova are field study research. The answers obtained to clarify the problems of the Gypsies have been acquired through the techniques of survey, deep interview and oral history. In the main frame of this study; who Gypsies and Romanies, Gaco (non-Gypsies) are, other groups of Gypsies and their views about themselves, how they express themselves, and how they perceive the environment they live in, their basic problems and their approaches to the future and the traces of past experiences of the Gypsies have been examined. In terms of the results of this study, the features of the Gypsies can be classified as follows: the internalisation of strangerness, the consciousness of historical exclusion, existing only in marginal jobs, preference of collaborative works, strong distinction between 'we' and 'the other', the preference of communal life, communal solidarity and limited communication with the exterior groups have been essential parameters in knowing and understanding the Gypsies. 215
