7. SUMMARY MGMTACTİVİriES,GSTANDNO İN bladder cancer patients Tumor formation is a multistep process that can be divided in to the stages of tumor initiation, promotion and progression. Previously.we showed that overexpression in tissue and leukocytes of bladder cancer male 's. DNA repair protein ; Methyl guanine DNA methyl transferase (MGMT) protects against alkylating agents-induced tumor initiation without affecting tumor promotion. MGMT is a key suicide enzyme repairing the mispairing base methylguanine.which is induced in DNA as a minor lesion. The glutathione S transferases (GST's) are a family of enzymes that are important protects against alkylating agents. NO contributes to the regulation of tumor angiogenesis. A substantial body of experimental evidence supports the hypothesis that tumor angiogenesis is fundamental for the growth and metastasis of solid tumors. We measured the levels of GST, NO2“ +N03”and MGMT activities in the leukocytes from patients with bladder cancer and healthy controls and MGMT activities in tumor tissue and adjacent normal tissue from patients with bladder carcinoma. GST levels were significantly increased in the patient group.MGMT activity was found to be higher in the tumor tissue than in the normal bladder tissue. There was no significant difference between controls and patients for MGMT activity in peripheral blood leukocytes (PBL).
