ABSTRACT This study has been carried out to introduce some principles and norms that can be used in the construction of a model for the interpretations and evaluations of dramatic works of art in EFL classes. The first chapter presents the background and the aim of the study and also determines the scope of the study. The second chapter gives the definitions of the necessary concepts in the light of which literature in general and dramatic work of art in particular should be taught in EFL classes. The third chapter explains how important literary theory, history and criticism are in the interpretation and evaluation of all the works of art. In the fourth chapter the function of stylistic analyses in the literary studies in general is described. In chapter five the general structure of dramatic works of a_rt is described. This chapter contains the critical concepts used in the interpretation of drama. Chapter six offers a sample lesson dealing with a dramatic work of art. In this chapter Chekhov's Uncle Vanya is studied inductively as well as deductively. The seventh chapter includes a brief summary of the study. 11
