Job satisfaction, whicheffects workers? general health status, is universally important in any contextand human professions and is regarded as a very important concept thatcontemporar social scientist focused on. But the studies that related with thework satisfaction of midwifes are very rare in the scientific literature. The purpose of this study is: to determine the level of work satisfactionof the midwifes working in Manisa city center; to evaluate the effect of worksatisfaction on the work performance of primary health care and howperfomance premimum system affects work satisfaciton. One final aim of thisstudy is to compare those working in tha primary health care facitilities and inthe hospitals in reagrd to work satisfaction. The population of this cross-sectional study is the midwifes working in state health facilities in the city centerof Manisa province. The overall work satisfaction is poor in the mdiwifes. Although socialrelationships of the work environment were stated as satisfactory, the newlyintroduced perpormance premimum system was evaluated as negativelyaffecting these relationships. On the other hand the ?work conditions? of themidwifes. was stated as the worst variable that affects relationships in the workenvironment. The positive effect of the work itself on the personal vocational(Professional) progress of the midwifes is higher in the midwifes who working inthe hospitals compared to the midwifes working in the primary health centers, whereas the social relationships of the work environment were stated as moresatisfactory by the midwifes working in the primary health centers comperd tothose working in the hospitals.
