156 SUMMARY My work comprises an ıntruduction, four chapters and a bibliography. Introduction deals with the etimological and technical meanings of the concepts of. Hadith and Sunnah and the importance of Hadith in islam. Again in the chapter it is shown how muslims esteemed the discipline of transmission (jsnad). First chapter is allocated for the place of the Journeys ( Rihle ) alone for the sake of Hadith. The meaning of the term is discussed and evidences are brought from the Kurgan and the Sunnah for it. In the second chapter the historical course of the journeys done for the sake of Hadith during the periods of prophet, his companions, Umavids, Abbasids is dealt with giving some examples. The third chapter under the title of the“ Chanaoteristics of the Journeys ”discusses the goals, benefits, methods of journeys and their affects on the unification of religious disciplines. Again the excegaration in the stories of journeys. The response against the persons who are indifferent to the rules and their being tested and predicaments during the journeys are examined. Fourth chapter debates on the types of the journeys. Under the title of“Acquisitian a Hadith”, a high isnad (âli isnad), meeting and discussing with the people who memorizes the hadiths, inquiring the transmitters, the trade of Hadith and the journeys only for fame are studied. Conclusion consists of the realities and results whioh are deduced from the subjects discussed above. Yusuf AÇIKEL
