Anabilim Dalı Tez Yöneticisi :Y.Do9.Dr.Ülker VANCI-OSAM Şubat, 1992,98 Sayfa Bu çalışmada, İngiliz dili öğretimi alanında, sürekli sınamanın olmadığı bir ortamda, başarısız olan öğrenciler açısından zorlukların nerede ve ne zaman başlamış olduğunu bulmanın zor olacağına ve bu nedenle de ayrı öğrencilerin ders tekrarlaması sırasında da, yine benzer davranışlar gösterebileceğine dikkat çekilmek istenmiştir. Bu tezin başlıca amacı öğrenci davranışlarını sürekli sınamanın, öğrencilerin zorluk çektiği noktaların belirlenmesinde ve düzeltilmesinde yararlı olup olmayacağım ve öğrencilerin zorluk çektiği noktaların belirlenmesinden sonra, harcanacak olan tekrar niteliğindeki ilave bir öğretim süresinin, problemleri en aza indirip indiremeyeceğini gözlemlemektir. Bunları kanıtlamak için, benzer özellik ve davranışlara sahip iki öğrenci grubu oluşturulmuştur: Kontrol ve Deney grupları. Kontrol grubun aksine, deney grup her öğretim ünitesinden sonra gelişme testlerine tabii tutulmuş, ve sonuçlar doğrultusunda ek-öğretim yapılmıştır. Sekiz haftalık bir dönem sonunda, her iki gruba da aralarında anlamlı bir farklılığın olup olmadığım bulmak için ayrı kurs sonu testi verilmiştir, gerek dönem içi ve gerekse dönem sonunda verilen sınavların hazırlanmasında, denenmesinde ve verilmesinde, uygulanması gereken metodlara sadık kalınmıştır. Çoğu istatistiki verilerin elde edilmesinde, SPSS bilgisayar programı oldukça yardımcı olmuştur, Deneyin sonunda tüm veriler oc»O.OS düzeyinde, düzenli ve devamlı bir sınavla eğitim gören öğrenciler lehine anlamlı bulunmuştur,

ABSTRACT THE ROLE OF CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT IN IMPROVING EFL STUDENT LEARNING AKŞlT, Halis Ne cm i M. A. in English Language Teaching Supervisor : Ass t. Prof. Dr. Ülker VANCI-OSAM February, 1992, 98 pages In this study, it has been claimed that in the absence of continuous assessment of learning in the field of English Language Teaching, it would be difficult to find when the difficulties start for the failing students. Besides this, these students could show similar behavior during the repetition of the same course, Therefore, the primary aim of this study is to see whether continuous assessment of student behavior will help reveal the problems students may have while learning English, and to observe whether remedial teaching after the diagnosis of the students' difficulties through formative tests would minimize the problem. To verify this, two groups who have similar performance were formed; control and experimental groups. Unlike the former, the latter was exposed to continuous assessment after each unit of learning and remedial teaching was implemented, when necessary, At the end of the eight-week-period, both groups were administered a summative test to observe whether there is a significant difference in favor of the experimental group. During the preparation of the summative test and formative tests all the requirements to construct, pilot and administer classroom tests were met. To gather the most of statistical data, SPSS computer program was of considerable use. At the end of the experiment, it was found that there is a significant difference between those two groups at aT0,05 level of significance. The students who were administered formative tests regularly became more successful,
