Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı kadına ilişkin çelişik duygulu cinsiyetçiliğin, genel sistemin meşrulaştırılması ve cinsiyetle ilgili sistemin meşrulaştırılması eğilimlerinin tecavüz mitlerinin kabulüyle nasıl bir ilişki içinde olduklarını belirlemektir. 323 katılımcıyla yapılan çalışmada Illinois Tecavüz Mitlerini Kabul Ölçeği (Payne, Lonsway ve Fitzgerald, 1999), Genel Sistemin Meşrulaştırılması Ölçeği (Kay ve Jost, 2003) ve Cinsiyetle İlgili Sistemin Meşrulaştırılması Ölçeği (Kay ve Jost, 2005) kullanılmış, araştırma sonuçları cinsiyetle ilgili sistemin meşrulaştırılması eğilimi, düşmanca cinsiyetçilik ve korumacı cinsiyetçiliğin, tecavüz mitlerinin kabulünü yordadığını göstermiştir. Erkekler için, cinsiyetle ilgili sistemin meşrulaştırılması ve tecavüz mitlerinin kabulü arasındaki ilişkide düşmanca cinsiyetçilik ve korumacı cinsiyetçilik aracı değişken rolü oynarken, aynı ilişkide kadınlar için yalnızca düşmanca cinsiyetçiliğin aracı bir rolünün olduğu saptanmıştır. Araştırma bulguları, kadınlara ilişkin cinsiyetçi tutumların ve sistemin meşrulaştırılması yönündeki motivasyonun tecavüz mitlerine verilen desteği anlamak açısından önem taşıdığını ileri sürmektedir.

Rape is one of the most common and severe forms of violence against women.. The literature on rape victimology highlighted the significance of ?rape myths? and the negative impacts of these myths on individuals and social structures. Rape myths are defined as ?prejudicial, stereotyped or false beliefs about rape, rape victims and rapists? and it is emphasized that they serve to deny and justify male sexual aggression aginst women (Burt, 1980; Payne, Lonsway, & Fitzgerald, 1999). Rape myth acceptance have been extensively studied, but little research is available on its relationship to more general belief systems. The purpose of this study is to determine how ambivalent sexism toward women, general and gender related system justification tendencies are associated with rape myth acceptance. 323 paticipants completed Illinois Rape Myth Acceptance Scale (Payne, Lonsway & Fitzgerald), Ambivalent Sexism Inventory (Glick & Fiske, 1996), General System Justification Scale (Kay & Jost, 2003) and Gender Related System Justification Scale (Kay & Jost, 2005). Results demonstrated that gender related system justification, hostile sexism and benevolent sexism predicted rape myth acceptance. Hostile sexism and benevolent sexism mediated the relationship between gender related system justification and rape myth acceptance for male participants. For female participants only hostile sexism mediated this relationship. These findings suggest that sexist attitudes toward women and system justification motives are important for understanding the support of rape myths.
