- 145 - SUMMARY Jose Luis Alonso de Santos who was born in Valladolid in 194S is one o-f the most famous contemporary authors of Spain. One of the most characteristic of Santos is his realistic point of view to real life. The themes he writes about are mostly related to the difficulties of social life. In“La Estanquera de Vallecas”, we reviewed first in this thesis, the author talks about the types of people from the different parts of society-main ly the relation between two men, the burglars, who lead a miserable way of life out of society and act accordingly to other people but not completely without sense of pity, and a grandmother and her grand child who work in their small shop, trying to put up with the harshf ul Iness of the outer life. As is seen by the name of the second work“ Ba jarse al Moro ”the author, reflecting the psychological contradictions of his characters, draws our attention to some group of young people who try to earn their lives in illegal ways by selling drugs to the other countries.“ El Album Familiar ”, written in the form of the authors authobiography, reflects the past and the present life of the author, he spent with his family, at the same time by means of pictures in their family album. In his last work“ Fuera de Quicio ”Santos shows us the resemblance between the mad in the lunatic asylum and the wise in our social life by reflecting their similar way of life from a critical point of view.
