Özet
Ahmed Midhat Efendi, Türk Edebiyatına getirdiği yeniliklerin yanı sıra çok yönlü aydın kimliğiyle de önemlidir. 1889 yılında dönemin Padişahı tarafından görevlendirilmesi neticesinde Stokholm'de yapılan Müsteşrikîn kongresine katılmıştır. Kongreye giderken ve kongre sonrasında gerçekleştirmiş olduğu seyahatleri ayrıntılı olarak anlatmış olduğu Avrupa'da Bir Cevelân isimli eseri, ilk olarak gazetede tefrika edilmiştir. Daha sonra kitap haline getirilmiştir. Avrupa'yı kültür, medeniyet, sosyal yaşam ve daha bir çok farklı yönlerden bizlere anlatan bu eser, 19. yüzyılda bir Osmanlı aydınının gözünden Avrupa'yı tanıma imkanı sunmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, 19. yüzyılda Avrupa'yı her yönüyle yansıtan bu eseri, Latin harflerine çevirmek suretiyle Avrupa dünyasını pek çok yönden Osmanlı dünyasıyla karşılaştırmalı olarak görme imkanı sunmaktır.

Ahmed Midhat Efendi, is one of the most important authors in Turkish Literature. He introduced lots of new things to Ottoman soceity in 19th century. He has over than hundred books. İn 1889, Sultan gave him an important reponsibility that to represent The Ottoman Empire in Orientalists? Congre in Stokholm. While he was going to that congre and after the congre he visited lots of European cities and countries. İn that case, he wrote all his experiences as a corner in his newspaper. After he finished to publish all that experiences as a newspaper corner, he brought all pieces together and he published Avrupa?da Bir Cevelân as a book. This book shows us the European culture, history, civilization and social life with the Ottoman intellectual?s point of view. The purpose of this work is to translate Avrupa?da Bir Cevelân from Arabic alfabet to Latin alfabet. İn this way we can understand the 19th century Europeans? world with comparing the Ottomans? world.
