Özet
Dünya bir tarafta küreselleşmekte diğer taraftan da bölgeler arası bütünleşmektedir. Bu yeni dünya düzeninde, en başarılı bölgesel bütünleşme hareketini gerçekleştiren Avrupa Birliği (AB) olmuştur. AB'nin zaman içinde gösterdiği performansla uluslararası ekonomide ulaştığı güç, diğer ülkeler için bu blok içinde yer almayı cazip hale getirmiştir.Avrupa Birliği'nin (AB) aday ve üye ülkelerden yerine getirmesini beklediği bazı kriterler vardır. AB'ye üye olmak için karşılanması gereken üç kriter (siyasi, ekonomik ve uyum kriterleri) Kopenhag kriterleri olarak bilinmektedir. Halihazırda AB üyesi ülkelerin Ekonomik Parasal Birlik (EPB) alnına dahil olabilmek için yerine getirmeleri gereken ekonomik kriterler ise Maastricht Yakınlaşma Kriteri olarak isimlendirilmektedir. Bunlar parasal kriterler (enflasyon, faiz ve döviz kuru) ve finansal kriterlerden ( bütçe ve borç ) oluşmaktadır.Bu çalışmada; Maastrichit kriterleri çerçevesinde, Türkiye'nin AB üyesi ülkelerle mukayesesi yapılacaktır. Türkiye'nin sergilediği performans parasal kriterlerden uzak, finansal kriterlerde ise kayda değer düzeyde gözükmektedir

The world is becoming globalised and the regional separations between the nations are narrowing. In this integrated world, the most succsessfull of integrations has been achieved by the European Union (EU).The swift performance of the EU to become an international economic power has made it an attractive organization for the other nations to desire its membership.To join the EU, a Candidate or a new Member State must meet three criteria: Political, economic and acceptance of the community acquis, which are known as Copenhagen Criteria.In addition, there are the euro convergence criteria (also known as the Maastricht criteria) which the EU member states must meet to enter the third stage of European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and adopt the euro as their currency.Maastricht criteria comprise: Inflation rates, Government finance (annual government deficit, government debt), Exchange rates and Long-term interest rates.In this study, under the framework of Maastricht criteria, Turkey and the current EU member states will be compared. Although, the performance shown by Turkey is behind the monetary criteria, it seems be at a considerable level in financial crateria.
