Özet
Bu araştırma Polis Meslek Yüksek Okulu öğrencilerine temel meslek eğitimleri sürecinde uygulanan staj eğitimlerinin mevcut durumunun staj eğitmenleri ve öğrencilerin algılarına göre değerlendirilmesini ve mentorluğa dayalı bir modele temel oluşturabilecek önerilere ilişkin eğitmen ve öğrenci görüşlerinin belirlenmesini amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmanın evrenini, ülke genelinde bulunan 25 Polis Meslek Yüksek Okulunda öğrenim gören ve 2008 yılı yaz döneminde staj eğitimine katılmış 6410 ikinci sınıf öğrencisi ile staj eğitmeni olarak görevlendirilen çeşitli rütbelerdeki 473 personel oluşturmaktadır. Bunları temsilen araştırmanın öğrenci örneklemi 364, staj eğitmeni örneklemi 212 kişiden oluşmuştur. Örneklemi oluşturan katılımcılara, staj eğitimlerinin mevcut durumunun (eğitimin etkinliği, yetişkin eğitimine uygunluk, yetki, sorumluluk ve sosyal haklar, eğitimin süresi, eğitmenlerin rolleri ve eğiticilik becerileri, stajyer ve eğitmen ilişkisi vb. yönüyle) nasıl olduğu; ilgililerin mentorluğa dayalı bir modele temel oluşturabilecek önerilere katılma dereceleri ile bu önerilerin uygulanabilirliğine ve polis meslek eğitimine yapacağı katkıya ilişkin görüşlerinin neler olduğuna ulaşmak amacıyla araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen ölçek uygulanmıştır.Elde edilen veriler SPSS paket programında çözümlenmiştir. Katılımcıların görüşleri arasında anlamlı bir fark olup olmadığını belirlemek için t-testi uygulanmıştır.Araştırma bulgularından katılımcıların, staj eğitimlerini öğrencilerin mesleki gelişimleri açısından önemli gördükleri ancak mevcut hali ile yeterince bu amaca hizmet etmediğini düşündükleri; eğitim ilişkisi ve eğitmenlerin yeterlilikleri açısından genel olarak yeterli buldukları ancak eğitimin süresi, yetki ve sorumluluklar, yetişkin eğitimi ve işbaşında eğitimin genel ilkelerine uygunluk yönüyle eksiklikler bulunduğunu düşündükleri; mentorluğa dayalı bir modele ilişkin olarak getirilen önerilere de genel olarak katıldıkları ve uygulanabilir buldukları saptanmıştır.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the internship programs applied in Police Vocational Schools based on the perceptions of police cadets and trainers/instructors, and to determine their vision about the suggestions related to mentorship-based model.The population of this study consists of two groups. The first group includes those police cadets (N1=6410) who were about to finish their two-year trainings in Police Vocational Schools (total 25) and attended to internship programs in the summer semester of 2008. The second group comprises those police officials -from different ranks- who were charged as mentors during this internship program (N2=473). A sample of 364 police cadets and 212 mentors were selected (n1=364; n2=212) by using simple random sampling technique.Various questions regarding the internship program were asked to participants. These questions were developed as scales by the researcher to measure different concepts. In order to capture the current situation of the internship program; the participants? opinions were inquired regarding the duration of the program (efficiency of program, compatibility of the program with the principles of adult education, authorities, responsibilities and employee benefits, length of training, roles and qualifications of the mentors, relationship between police cadets and trainers etc.). The participants? suggestions regarding the alternative model of mentorship were also asked. The questions designed particularly to extract participants? opinions on the applicability of the alternative model and to what extent they would contribute to and support such a model of mentorship.The data was analyzed by using SPSS software. Independent sample t-tests were conducted to see if there is a significant difference between the perceptions/opinions of police cadets and instructors/trainers.Results indicated that both police cadets and instructors consider internship programs very important for occupational advancement of the police cadets; however, they think that current internship programs do not serve enough to this purpose. The participants report that the program is good enough in terms of the qualifications of the instructors. However, they think that there are problems in terms of the compatibility of the program with the principles of adult education, and the duration of the internship program should be longer. The participants also expressed their support regarding the proposed model of alternative program.
