Özet (Çeviri)

5. SUMMARY : The study covers, first, an introduction part in which the innovations in both narrative style and techniques and their relative effects on the contemporary writers are mentioned with references to their major works; and then a biography of James Joyce is given to provide some information about his life, works and art. After the biography comes the- reseaeh on the stream of consciousness technique, which is followed by the study of 'Ulysses' and *fl Portrait of the ftrtist as a Young Man' respectively. While I was studying 'Ulysses*, I included extracts as proofs to show the mechanics of the stream if consciousness technique in the novel. In doing that, I gave examples of associations, images, sensations and perceptions all of which were the components of ' streaa of consciousness'. Finally, Î explained the concept of internal monologue and made a comparison of Molly's and Bloom's monologues. In *fl Portrait of the ftrtist as a Young Man* I gave a parallel summary to the study of the technique in the novel. I also included the necessary references to the novel in my thesis to prove my ideas, and compared and contrasted narrated and internal monologues. 79The final part of my thesis includes the conclusion, in which I discussed the value of this study and the concept of 'stream of consciousness* in Joyce's two novels. I reached to the conclusion that 'Ulysses1' is the masterpiece in which stream of consciousness technique reaches its sublime peak, and the same technique is applied in *fl Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man11, too, however, in a different way, i.e. as a device of the narrator, told in third person. 80 ^2}
