Thesis THE EFFECTS OF CONSTANT PHOTOPERIODS ON THE TIMING OF SPAWNING IN THE RAINBOW TROUT (Oncorhvnchus mvkiss Walbaum 1792) IN THE CONDITIONS OF GÖKPINAR RAINBOW TROUT PRODUCTION AND RESEARCH FARM. Prof.Dr. Fikri AYDIN This research was conducted from Dec. 17 th 1991 to Feb. 11 th 1993 in Gökpmar Trout Production and Research Station, located in the district of Gürün, Province of Sivas. The purpose of study was to investigate the possibilities of obtaining biannual spawning in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and spreading spawning intervals over a long period by applying photoperiod. 40 males and 120 females 2+, 3+ years old broodstock fish were applied; natural photoperiod (control), constant 24L:OD (group A), constant 6L:18D (group B) and constant 18L:6D (group C). Experiments were carried out in two parellels using 9,2x0,9x1 meters raceways. An stocking density of 20 fish per raceway and a male:IV female ratio of 1:3 were employed throughout the experiment. Following the winter ovulation, first batches of eggs were stripped from group control A,B and C after 373, 271, 153 and 180 respectively. In period of 14 months biovulation was observed in some spawners of group B. Following winter ovulation, peak maturation points were reached in group control A, B and C in 373, 330, 153 and 373 days respectively. Mean GSI value was found to be 18.15±1 in group A, 16.35±0.76 in group B, 16.77±0.96 in group C and 19.68+0.65 in control group. Absolute fecundity (No. of eggs/spawner) were determined as 2815±225, 2930±168, 2666±163 and 2365179 in group A,B,C and control respectively. Mean relative fecundity (No. of eggs/kg of spawner) was determined as 2426±169 in group A, 28291184 in group B, 2313±175 in group C and as 2281±86 in control group. Mean values of diameters were found to be 4.7±0.04 mm, 4.1±0.03 mm, 4.8+0.04 mm and 4.8110.03 mm in group A, B, C and control respectiveyl. Development of eggs stripped, from different groups, to eyed stage was determined as 59. 7312. 05 % in group A, 63.4510.97 % in group B, 58.7111.50 % in group C and 67.461 0.92 % in control group. Mean CF1SD values were faund to be 1.196910.13, 1.178910.18, 1.214310.20 and 1.228310.20 in group A, B, C and control respectively.
