III ABSTRACT Masters Thesis A RESEARCH FOR THE INVOLVEMENT OF THE GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION; AND ORGANIZATION SUPPORTED BY THE GOVERNMENT, IN THE FIELD OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE, THEIR RESPONSIBILITY, STUDY AREA AND A TYPICAL MODEL OF ORGANIZATIONAL CHART Rahime TUNÇTAN Ankara University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Landscape Architecture Supervisor : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halim PERÇİN 1994, Page : 292 Jury : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halim PERÇİN Prof.Dr. Kamuran GÜÇLÜ Prof.Dr. Hayran ÇELEM This study mainly focuses on the activities of some government institutions in the field of Landscape Architecture with special reference to organizational structures and problem areas in Landscape Architecture studies. In the introductory part of this work we first provide an insight into the historical development, current status and practices of the Landscape Planning profession. To this end, France and the United Kingdom are sampled out among the other Western countries in order to document the ways in which the landscape profession, in general,IV function. But the main objective throughout this study has been to provide an insight into and analyze the Landscape Architecture and Planning services and applications, professional operation problems and the place of the landscape architect in the organizational structure of some Turkish institutions such as: The Ministry of Development and Settling, General Management of Roads and Highways, General Management of State Water Works, General Management of The Bank of Provinces, Ministry of Tourism, Local Governments, the Turkish Parliament and The Turkish Electricity Board. We, then, try and approach a set of solutions to the listed areas of difficulties by which the profession of Landscape Architecture seems to be challenged in Turkey. The research which is carried out here firstly sums up and illustrates the data gathered for the above mentioned points, through diagrammatic expressions. This, in fact, is one part of the conclusions section. Another part in the concluding section suggests that the Western countries are far ahead of Turkey in securing a comfortable and strong position for the profession of Landscape Architecture among others and some professional developments may well have an application potential in our country from this point of view. In the recommendations section, this thesis puts forward that establishing a competent framework for the educational institutions along with refined curri cula, getting the profession more institutionalized and organized, demarcating the activity areas of the Landscape Architecture field and achieving more contact and collaboration with other fields are the necessary steps to take.
