Özet
Edebiyatta, belirleyici şahsiyetler çıkmayınca, gurup ve nesil çalışmalarının öne çıktığı görülür. Bizde Tanzimat ve Servet-i Fünûn nesilleri arasında yer alan ve ağırlıklı faaliyetini 1877-1896 tarihleri arasında yürüten, ama tesirinde kaldığı önceki nesli aşamadığı gibi hazırlanmasında mühim roller üslendiği kendinden sonra gelen nesil tarafından da gölgelenen bir ara nesil bahis konusudur. 1861 'de Edirnede doğan, 14 yaşından sonra İstanbul'da yaşayan ve1936'da Beyoğlunda Bekâr Sokağındaki evinde ölen Mustafa Reşîd Bey, nesir ve şiir vadisinde eser veren bir ara nesil sanatkârı olup bu neslin hemen hemen bir çok mensubu gibi büyük soluktan mahrum, ama gayreti ve velûdiyetiyle dikkati çeker. Hayatı hakkında malzeme yokluğundan doğan boşluklara rağmen, o edebiyat ve düşünce adamlarının birçoğuyla teklifsiz bir dostluğun sahibi, hatırı sayılır bir naşir, roman ve hikâye yazarı, müntahabât sahibi, mektep kitapları yazarı, Maarif-i Umûmiye Nezâreti'nde özel kalem müdürlüğüne yükselmiş bir bürokrat, kitap sahibi bir şâir, şiirleri birden fazla bestekâr tarafından bestelenen bir güfte yazarı olarak kendini gösterir. Şark ve Envârı-Zekâ adlı iki dergi çıkarmış, yirmi civarında roman, hikâye ve mensûre ile üç şiir kitabı yayınlamıştır. Sade yazma, konuşulduğu gibi yazma yolunda bir çığır açmış, fonetik imlânın tutunmasına zemin hazırlamış, mensur şiirin edebiyatımıza bir tür olarak oturmasında katkıları olmuştur. Yaşayışı itibariyle“şık”olan Mustafa Reşîd Bey, piyasa edebiyatına yönelmiş ama dili kullanmada ve imlâ meselelerinde devrinde bir öncü hatta âdeta bir ihtilalci görüntüsü arzetmiştir. Eserlerinde de tatlısu frenklerinin hayatlarını gayet duygusal bir tarzda anlatmış, devrinde çok okunmuş ve sevilmiş olmasına karşılık, eserleri popüler edebiyatın diğer örnekleri gibi zamana mağlup olmuş ve çok çabuk unutulmuştur.

This thesis concerned Mustafa Reşîd Bey a miner figure in the late 19tn Century in Turkish literature. He was born in Edirne in 1861, came to Istanbul as a young boy of fourteen. He lived there untill he death in 1 936. He produced many works both in prose and verse; novels, short stories, prose poems and other forms of poetry, as well as some text books on literature and translations from the Persian. It is well known that literary group or generational activities start in literature when there a lack of dominant literary figures or masters. At this point Turkish literature, there was an intermediary literary generation that rose between the Tanzimat and Servet-i Fünûn eras; and the main activity of this generation took place from 1877 to 1896. This Intermediary Literary Generation couldn't surpass the impression made on it by the previous generation Tanzimat, and it was outstripped by the following generation Servet-i Fünûn, though they played an important role in laying the foundations for it The primary subject matter of this thesis is the life and works of Mustafa Reşîd, who is typical of this intermediary Literary generation. His life and works take place in this thesis as a subject matter. The thesis consists of an“Introduction”, the thesis itself, a bibliography, an index and appendixes. In the introduction, I discussed the problem of literary generation and the intermediary literary generation in Turkish literature in the late 19tn century. In the first part of the the thesis itself, I deal with some aspects of the life of Mustafa Reşîd: his physical and moral portrait, his life as a civil servant, and his literary environment and friends. Next is an account of his literary life and activities as a journalist. And finally, His death, His Place in his generation, and evaluation of the epoch in which he lived and of his place in that epoch. The Second part of the body of this thesis is a critique of his works, novels, short stories, prose poems and other poetry, their subject matter, technics, and style. The last part of this thesis proper is“Bibliography”including a list of Mustafa Reşîd books and, writings in non-book form, the writings about him, and a list of general sources. The appendixes complete the thesis.
