In this research, my purpose is to measure the effects of Customs Union (CU) on Turkish construction sector . Research is the combination of three different scopes . First one aims the manufacturing part of the construction sector . Second part mesures the competitive strengths of contractor sector . And finally , third part includes the firms importing construction materials . In the first phase, the firms that will participate in the research, were detected . Questinaires are sent to these firms by mail. Only 756 of the 1233 candidate firms replied to the surveys. These surveys are analyzed by frequency and cross tabulation analysis and the result of the analysis are interpreted. The structure of the construction sector is found out to be homogeneous and there are no certain differences among sub sectors . Beside this, the effect of CU on the construction sector is not so much. When you look at the contractors' side, the number of the foreign firms in the local market is expected to increase but despite this contractors think that they will be affected minimum from this increase in the number of the contractors . In the external market, it is believed that if the double taxes are reduced, the competitive strength of the contractors will increase . In the manufacturing part of the sector , a strong competition environment is expected. The major competitors in both internal and external markets will be Ee countries . If government makes the legal arrangements required, and the firms make the structural adjustments required, then the sector will be ready for the competition . Importers expect a rise in the imports, especially in the specialized products .
