Özet
Bu tez, 1960-1980 arası dönemde CHP'de meydana gelen dönüşüme paralel olarak Türkiye'de merkez sol siyasetin ortaya çıkışını incelemektedir. Bu süreçte ortaya çıkan merkez sol akım Kuzey Avrupa anlamında sosyal demokrat olmamasına karşın Türkiye'de anadamar bir alcım haline gelmiştir. Batı Avrupa sosyal demokrasisiyle 1970'ler CHP'sinin demokratik sol ideolojisi arasındaki farklar tespit edilmiş, demokratik sol ideolojinin özgün yanları olmakla birlikte İtalya ve İspanya merkez solunun özelliklerine benzer özellikler taşıdığı ortaya konmuştur. CHP'nin önce 'ortanın solu'nu benimsemesinin ardındaki temek faktörler olarak Demokrat Parti'nin siyaset yapma tarzı, Türkiye'nin değişen sosyo-ekonomik yapısı ve 1961 Anayasası'nın getirdiği özgürlük ortamı belirlenmiştir. 1970'lerdeki demokratik sol CHP'nin temel özelliği sol popülizmi benimsemesi ve şehirli yoksul sınıflarla köylülüğe popülist bir söylemle seslenmesi olmuştur.

This thesis is a comprehensive analysis of the emergence of center-left politics in Turkey, with particular reference to West European social democracy. The hypothesis that formed the basis ofthis study was that neither left-of-center nor democratic left RPP could become a social democratic party in the West European sense of the concept, though its transformation throughout the 1960s and 1970s had marked the emergence of center-left movement as a mainstream political current in Turkish politics. Swedish and German Social Democratic parties are chosen to constitute the comparative setting. Historical background of center-left politics is analyzed with three main factors that have been influential in RPP's shift to left-ofcenter. They are the DP's mode of policy making; the new socio-economic structure of Turkey; the 1961 Constitution and the rise of the left. This study demonstrates how did the RPP's left-of-center strategy transformed to the democratic left ideology under the leadership of Ecevit. It analyzes the specific characteristics of social democracy in comparison with the West European social democracy and points out the characteristics of North European Social Democracy with the examples of Swedish and German Social democratic parties. The comparison reveals that there are many differences between Turkish center-left movement and North European social democracy, though there are similarities with the Mediterranean countries such as Italy and Spain.
