Özet
Bu tez Sarıkamış Harekatının toplum hafızasındaki yeri ve önemi üzerine, dönemi yaşayan veya birebir savaşa katılmış sekiz subayın anıları, üç makale ve üç romanı baz alarak yapılmış bir çalışmadır. 1912-1922 yılları arası Osmanlı İmparatorluğu için birbirini takip eden savaşlarla dolu bir devredir ki çoğunlukla bu savaşlarda Osmanlı imparatorluğu savunma durumundaydı. Bu savunma durumundaki istisnalardan biri de Birinci Dünya Savaşı'ndaki en büyük ileri harekatlardan biri olan Sarıkamış Harekatı'dır. Sarıkamış Harekatı Osmanlı Ordusu'nun son saldırı savaşlarındandır. Çok büyük bir yenilgiyi ve inanılmaz oranlarda kayıpları ortaya çıkarmasının yanısıra bir dönemin bitişini de belirleyen olaylardandır. Birinci Dünya Savaşı'nın bitişi aynı zamanda Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun ileri harekatlarına da son noktayı koymuştur. Birinci Dünya Savaşı ve Kurtuluş Savaşı sırasında yaşanan yenilgiler ve zaferler yeni Türk Devleti'nin kuruluşunda olduğu gibi Türk resmi tarihinde de önemli bir yere sahiptir. Türk edebiyatı ve yazınında Sarıkamış Harekatı işte, yeni ulus devletin savunma zihniyetini yansıtmaktadır.

This thesis is an attempt to study the place and importance of the Battle of Sankaml~ in social memory focusing on the perception of the phenomenon of war in the memoirs of eight officers of the war time period, three journalistic essays and three novels that reflects the importance of this battle. The period of 1912-1922 is a period of continuous wars and the Ottoman Empire mainly in the defensive position in those battles. One of the exceptions of this situation is the Battle of Sankaml~ that is one of the greatest defeats of the Ottoman Empire in the First World War. The Battle of Sankaml~ was one of the last offensive battles of the Ottoman Army. It was a great defeat and caused heavy casualties but it was also an ending mark of a time period. With the ending of the First World War, the time ofthe offensive period of the Ottoman Empire ended. The victories and defeats of the First World War and the War of Independence have particular importance in Turkish official history, as they marked the landmark events in the making up of a new nation state. The place of the Battle of Sankaml~ in Turkish literature reflected this defensive mentality of the new nation state.
