Özet (Çeviri)
The main objective of this study was developing a best practice organisational culture along with the appropriate leadership style for managing the multigenerational workforce in a project environment. Generational differences are an area of concern with the increasing participation of Y generation into the workforce. Today the two major participants of the workforce are the X and Y generations. A detailed by review of the current literature have revealed that the relationship between project management and the multigenerational workforce was not investigated before. This study was aiming to establish such a relationship. Following a thorough review of the relevant literature about main characteristics of X and Y generations, organisational culture and its effects on project management, certain conclusions are reached for efficiently managing the multigenerational workforce. It is shown that organisational culture can be used as a tool to increase the overall effectiveness of a multigenerational workforce by addressing the different needs and expectations of different generations. A transformational leadership style supported by monitoring and guiding aspects of transactional leadership is found to be helpful in reducing conflicts and increasing employee efficiency in a multigenerational workforce. Project management best practice tools and techniques are demonstrated to be also suitable for project teams consisting of X and Y generations. Leadership and organisational culture can both be used to mediate the differences and reduce the gaps between generations. Aspects of organisational culture which can be used to increase project delivery abilities and those aspects that can be used to manage a multigenerational workforce are shown to many have similarities. The coinciding aspects of organisational culture are used to propose an organisational culture best practice to manage X and Y generations in project environments. Goal Focus, Decentralized Decision Making and Low Levels of Hierarchy & Bureaucracy, Encouraging Innovation & Autonomy and Not Having Standardized Procedures, Learning Environment and High Level of Integration and Communication within the Organisation are identified as key elements for the best practice organisational culture for managing a multigenerational workforce. Generational diversity can be a gift which needs to be managed. Organisational culture and proper leadership can increase cooperation between employees and mediate the differences in a multigenerational workforce leading to delivering successful projects.
