In this study, Turkish Earthquake Code and Eurocode 8 are compared in order to examine the design procedure differences between two codes and to investigate the consequences of these differences. The main focus point is the conceptual design approaches and the perspective of both codes to compare the visions regarding the earthquake engineering. The sample of a reinforced concrete building is analysed to figure out this aspects consequences and to compare the two codes application differences. The document is consists of six sections. First section is the introduction part that gives basic information about earthquakes and the history of two codes. In the second section, general principles and rules are examined in order to see both codes perspective in seismic design. This comprises the fundamental requirements, specific measures in seismic design, the classifying the ground type with respect to seismic actions and how they represent these seismic actions in their application. In the third section, the conceptual design approaches of two codes are examined by presenting the two codes requirements in structural regularities and the methods of analysis are mentioned. In the fourth section, the special rules in dimensioning and detailing for the concrete buildings are briefly mentioned and behavior factors and the ductility classes of the structural systems are widely examined. In the fifth section, the analysis of a sample concrete building is performed with Sta4cad structural analysis software, and the output reports are given to assist the comparison of both codes. In the last chapter, as a conclusion, a detailed comparison is present in order to see the differences between two codes. In some sections, the requirements and conditions. It is to be noted that, in the context of this study, some requirements and conditions are directly taken from the relevant codes in order to make more accurate comments and comparison. Since the fundamental principle of this study is to examine, not only the numerical differences but also the approaches and the content differences. Thus, all particular sub-clauses starting with Eurocode and Turkish Earthquake code are referenced with the relevant codes.
