Özet (Çeviri)

As the demand of mobile internet applicatıons for network resources increase every single day, the need for bet ter handover decision making mechanisras also increases, in order to prevent severe impacts of handover on Quality of Service (QoS). Prediction schemes that have prior knowledge about past movements of mobile users are helpful in making right handover deci-sions. Hidden Markov Model (HMM) provides such a prediction scheme by constructing a probabilistic database from past movements of the user. In this thesis, a handover decision making mechanism that employs HMM for mobility prediction is presented. This user-centered mechanism predicts Received Signal Strength (RSS) values for a number of future time slots, to make handover decisions at an accurate time. Since preventing excessive handovers is also essential for handover decision making mechanisms, a fuzzy logic controller is added to the structure to regulate handover decisions. To evaluate the performance of this handover decision making structure, an office environ-ment scenario is created. A detailed mobility model, that generates movements based on the behavior of mobile users in an office, is designed for simulations. The results obtained from these simulations demonstrated that this handover decision making structure is accurate in making long term RSS predictions. Furthermore, the handover decision making structure achieved the goal of minimizing frequent handovers in limited time periods.
