The main aim of the dissertation is investigating the efficiency of BOT concession contracts in airport developments in Turkey through the most important airport cases, which are: Istanbul Ataturk International Airport and Ataturk International Airport. The preliminary literature review aimed to address legislative background of PPP in Turkey and definition of various potential risks in air transportation sector. Moreover, problems regarding contractual framework and stakeholders are identified in order to make proper definition of how BOT airports were implemented in Turkey. According to the results of collected data problems regarding legal framework, operational period and architectural design are identified in order to determine gaps to be filled in the sector. The dissertation can be used as guideline by policy makers, airport management experts, concessionaires and academicians in order to do further research in terms of sustainable concession and contractual process in airport developments in Turkey.
