Özet
SUMMARY In this thesis, it was aimed by empirical studies to steer the argument arising from the productivity of fewer-branch and multi-branch banks towards the result. In the light of the said objective, the fewer- branch banks and multi-branch banks were separated conceptually from one another in priority. The subjects of income-expense structures and the measurement of the work volume which are necessary to compare the banks with each other were included as well. The concept of the productivity which constitutes the backbone of the subject was examined and it was divided into two main sections. These sections are profitability and productivity. Tables were used in order to examine these subjects better. Rate of Return Table and Analysis of Gross Income Margin Table were examined for profitability and Analysis of Service Costs Table for productivity. The collective results of the selected fewer-branch and multi-branch banks and the collective results of all banks (namely income tables, balance seheets, income-expense margins) were taken up and they were adapted to these three tables. In order to prevent the deviations and get correct result they were examined for three years (1991-1992-1993) and comparisons were made with bank groups. As a result of such comparisons, a general growth is observed in productivity with regard to years. While the 111bank groups are examined, it is observed that banks with fewer branches operate more productively compared with multi-branch banks and banks in general. When the reason for such productivity is examined, two important reasons can be noticed. The first is the employment of the personnel more efficiently and the other is benefiting from the capital leverage more in the banks with fewer branches. IV
