Özet
Tez, üç ana bölüm, giriş ve sonuçtan oluşmaktadır. Giriş bölümünde, inanç ve bilgi konusundaki düşüncelerinin Locke'un genel epistemolojisindeki yeri ve din fel-sefesi ile ilişkisi kısaca ele alınmıştır. Birinci bölümde; bilginin mahiyeti, kaynakları ve sınırları itibarıyla Locke'un genel epistemolojisi, 'bilginin gerçekliği' problemine özel referansla ele alınmıştır. İkinci bölümde; Locke'un din epistemolojisindeki temel kavramlar olan inanç, bilgi, akıl ve iman analiz edilerek, akıl ve iman görüşü, aklın inançta rehberimiz olması bağ-lamında analiz edilmiştir. Ayrıca, dini inancın rasyonalitesi konusunda Locke'un de-lilcilik fikri, Tanrı'nın varlığına inanmanın doğrulanması çerçevesinde ele alınmıştır. Üçüncü bölümde; Locke'un teizm, deizm ve Hıristiyanlık hakkındaki fikirleri, deizm suçlamasına karşı duruşu, özellikle vahiy ve mucizeyi savunması konuları ince-lenmiştir. Sonuç olarak, Locke'un delilci karakterde gözüken genel epistemolojisinin, Hıristiyan vahyi ve doktrinlerine yaklaşımıyla tutarlılığı ele alınmıştır. Sonuç bölü-münde, Locke'un Hıristiyanlığın akliliği iddiasının felsefi doğrulaması değerlendiril-miştir.

The thesis consist of three main chapters in addition to the introduction and conclusion. The introduction provides a brief account of the concepts of belief and knowledge in Locke's general epistemology and their relevance to his philosophy of religion. The first chapter deals with Locke's general epistemology in detail focusing on the na-ture, sources and limits of knowledge with a special reference to the question of the 'reality of knowledge'. The second chapter analyses some key concepts in Locke's religious epistemolo-gy such as belief, knowledge, reason and faith by highlighting his basic view that reason should be our guide in belief. It further examines Locke's evidentialism on the issue of the rationality of religious belief/ faith which primarily involves the justification of belief that God exists. In the third chapter, Locke's views on theism, deism and Christianity are examined to-gether with his defence against the charge of deism; particularly his defence of revelation and miracles is underlined. Finally the consistency of Locke's approach to the Christian revelation and doctrines is questioned in the context of his general epistemological outlook which seems to be evidentialist in character. Hence, in the concluding part, the philosophical justification of Locke's contention of the reasonableness of Christianity is evaluated.
