Özet
Bu tezin amacı, genel olarak fantastik yazın eserlerinde, özellikle Mervyn Peake'in Gormenghast üçlemesinin Türkçe çevirilerinde biçemin işlevi ve önemini ve hedef metinde nasıl yeniden yaratıldığını, bu süreçte çevirmenin hangi çeviri stratejilerini kullandığını çoğuldizgesel bir yaklaşımla saptamak ve incelemektir. Bu çalışmada, çeviride biçeminin aktarılmasında yazınsal çoğuldizgenin rolünü ortaya koymak amacıyla Türk yazın çoğuldizgesinde fantastik yazın türünün konumu Even-Zohar'ın çoğuldizge kuramı çerçevesinde belirlenmiş ve tanımlanmıştır. Toplanan veriler ışığında, fantastik yazın türünün Türk çeviri yazınında 1994 yılında başlayan macerasında Türk çeviri yazını çoğuldizgesinde ikincil bir konuma sahip olduğu saptanmıştır. Bu tezin sonucunda, Mervyn Peake'in Gormenghast üçlemesinden seçilen biçemsel örneklerin Türkçede yeniden yaratılması incelenmiş ve Even-Zohar'ın çoğuldizge kuramında belirttiği üzere çevirmen Türk yazın çoğuldizgesi içinde fantastik tür çevirilerinde önceden kullanılan çeviri stratejilerini kullanmayı tercih ettiği için ortaya“yeterli olmayan”bir çeviri çıktığı saptanmıştır. Even-Zohar'ın çoğuldizge kuramı metinsel bir inceleme yönteminden ziyade dizgesel ve kültürel bir inceleme yöntemi sunduğu için betimleme, ironi, aliterasyon gibi söz sanatları ve diğer dilsel özellikler içeren özgün eserin biçemsel özellikleri ve bu özelliklerin kaynak metindeki işlevleri ile kaynak kültür ve okuyucu açısından önemi ile hedef metinde biçemin yeniden yaratılıp yaratılmadığı ve biçemsel eşdeğerliğin sağlanıp sağlanamadığı Raymond Van den Broeck'in çeviri eleştiri yöntemi kullanılarak incelenmiştir.

The purpose of this dissertation is to find out and analyse the function and significance of style in fantasy literature in general, how style is recreated in the target text, and the translation strategies used in this recreation especially in the case of the Turkish translations of Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast trilogy through a polysystemic approach. In this dissertation, the position of fantasy literature in Turkish literary polysystem is investigated within the scope of Even-Zohar's polysystem theory in order to present the role of the literary polysystem in determining the transfer of style. In the light of the data gathered, it is concluded that fantasy literature the adventure of which in Turkish translated literature has begun in 1994 has a secondary position in Turkish translated literature polysystem. After determining the position of fantasy genre in Turkish translated literature, examples selected from Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast trilogy in terms of style are analysed both in terms of source text and target text. At the end of this study, it is found that the translator prefers to use the best ready-made secondary models as translation strategies which leads to a“non-adequate translation”as Even-Zohar states in his polysystem theory. Since Even-Zohar's polysystem theory provides a systemic and a cultural analysis method rather than a textual analysis, stylistic aspects of the original work which contain unique linguistic features and figurative language such as metaphor, alliteration, their functions in the source text and significance in terms of source culture and source text readers are analysed with a view to Raymond Van den Broeck's method of translation criticism and the Turkish translation of the source texts will be analysed employing the same method to portray if style is recreated and stylistic equivalence is achieved.
