Özet (Çeviri)

The aim of this thesis is to investigate and identify the effect of the asylum policy on asylum-seeking children, to determine various failings of the policy, and to make suggestions that can positively affect the position of asylum-seeking children and improve the policy. The thesis consists of four parts. The first part provides insight into the roots of immigration in the Netherlands and its impact on Dutch culture and present day society. The second part provides information about all the involved actors. In the third part, provides insight in the results of in-depth interviews with asylum-seeking children and young adults are presented. These results show that the asylum procedure has a significantly negative impact on the lives of asylum-seeking children. This part also contains the effect of forced eviction on asylum-seeking children that are rooted in the Netherlands. The conclusion I draw, indicate that the current asylum policy does not take the positions and interests of asylum-seeking children into consideration enough. The long procedures are harmful for a child's health, identity and development. A child's development in this study should be seen as a composite right that protects, respects and promotes a child's process of development, as well as it outcome, with the aim to enable the child to fulfil its human potential to the maximum. For example, the right to education which is aimed at respect for human rights and for the cultural identity, the norms and values of the Netherlands and other countries, peace and tolerance, equality between the sexes, friendship between people and groups, and respect for the environment. This thesis, through its suggestions, make a contribution to improving the position of asylum-seeking children and the current asylum policy.
