Özet

SUMMARY This research concerns the problems of epilectic children in their school life, and has been carried out in order to determine the main difficulties of patients, their families and teachers. The survey has been applied on 88 children, 50 of whom were epilectic and 38 their healthy brothers and sisters, 50 mothers, and teachers of 72 children living in Sivas town centre. The data obtained during the course of this study were collected by using the different survey forms namely the“Physiological Adaptation Scale”,“Stanford Binet Individual Intelligence Test”. These data were then evaluated and grouped by content analysis, percentage measurements, the importance test between the difference of the mean values, and the“chi-square”importance test in multiple arrangements. The results revealed that the patients families and teachers have not enough interference knowledge, and less experience in controlling the disease. Therefore the ratio of hospitalized patients and the attendance to school in epilectic children were high. Additionaly; the level of success in the school, irregular attendance at school, lack in acquiring knowledge, intelligence grade, physiological adaptation and facing the problems were not different than their healthy brothers and sisters. The friendship between epilectic and normal students was not very close, and the ratio of cooperation between the friends was very 105low. Despite the fact that the patients do not require help from their families and teachers, they are treated as children in need. Patients mothers feel themselves nervous about their epilectic children during the time of attendance to school, thus some of the patients started their school life at their older age. Most of the patients mothers and teachers have been anxious about their childrens future life, of 1/3 teachers are uninformed about epilectic students. They had no opinion on the role of Health Team concerning to solve the epilectic childrens problems. Consequently, it is suggested that a strong communication among the school, family and Health Team should be established and a full care covering the educational and supervisional services on epilepsy disease must be kept in order to provide adaptation to medical treatment for patient children and their families. 106
