207 VI. SUMMARY In this study, making use of descriptive research method, we aimed to evaluate courses of science group, which is formed by such courses as physics, chemistry and biology being studied in 9th, 10th and 11th grades of science high schools and science and math programs, which are studied in the same grades of these schools, in terms of the realization of program aims. To be able to collect data for the evaluation of science and math programs; 1. We applied“ Program Evaluation Questionaire - Science ”and“ Program Evaluation Questionaire - Mathematics ”to the students attending Science Hige Schools. 2. To collect data about the success of students in their courses and doing their assignments, projects and research studies interviews were held with their teachers and student records were investigated. 3. To analise the course of in - class learning and teaching observations were done and interviews were held. 4. In order to determine the attitudes of the students attending 9th. and 11th. grade of Science Hige School two questionaires were applied,“ A Questionaire on the Thoughts of the Students About Science”and“A Questionaire on the Thoughts of the Students About Mathematics ”. Data obtained by different techniques have been examined under this headings; - Evaluation of the learning - teaching process, - Evaluation of the teaching students' success, - Evaluation of the students' science and math attitudes, - Evaluation of science and math programs based on students' views and the following results have been observed.208 Results related with the evaluation of learning - teaching process: It has been observed thata teachers' attitudes of starting the lessson, formulation of behavioral objestives and explanations to students, determining the students' cognitive starting behaviors, students' correlation between new things and what they have learned before showed inadequacy while attitudes such as motivation, taking and giving feed back, giving the students the right reinforcement, asking questiouns to students, teacher' responed to students' questiouns were at adequate levels. It has been observed that science and math, teachers used expression technique, question - respond method and problem solving method insufficiently and science teachers used the labrotory at low level and used only the board as teaching aid. It has been determined that teachers gave the students only the assignments obliged by the regulations. It has been observed that project and research studies were done but these could not be investigated because of the lack of information. Results obtained in relation with the evaluation of the student success: Students' achievements in science - group courses and math - group courses have been analized by“ t ”test and it has been concluded that the students were more successful in science courses than in math courses. Also student achievement in advanced science course, which is taught as a selective course, has been found to be higher than that of the science courses, which are compulsory. To test the students' achievements, test, essay test and oral examination techniques have been used in schools. Results obtained in relation with the evaluation of the students' science and math attitudes : The difference between the science and math, attitudes of the students attending 9th. and 11th grade has been analized by“ t ”test and a significant difference has been found betwen the science attitudes of the 9th and 11th grade students, when this difference was analized, it was determined that science and math attitudes of the 9th - grade students were207 VI.
