Turkey is a candidate country to membership for the European Union. Europeanisation of Turkey dates back to the establishment of the Ottoman Empire and intensified since the 1800s. The country made a primary school curriculum reform in 2005 with the aim to converge the primary school curriculum with the European norm and standards in education. In the primary schools of Turkey, student-centred pedagogy was introduced to converge with the European Union standards. This desk-based research explores the impacts of the reform on the social justice in Turkey. The research also reveals the effect of student-centred pedagogy on several education actors such as students, teachers, and parents. In addition, the relationship between student-centred pedagogy and democratisation are problematised within the context of the education of Turkey. The research also explores the high school curricula of Turkey in terms of multicultural education, which the European Union promotes in the Member Countries. Within this context, conceptualization of secularism and secularism in education of Turkey are revealed. For thecontextualization of the country, the research starts with revealing education in Turkey and the conceptualising of education-modernity-development relations. Then, educational policy borrowing problem is presented.
