Özet (Çeviri)
This study is designed as a case study and examined the competitiveness of Turkish logistic industry through following Porters Diamond Model's approach. Six interviews were also conducted to identify the view of the companies' managers towards the current status of the Turkish logistics industry. From this study it was identified that in the logistics sector, Turkey has considerable advantages especially due to its geographic location. As Turkey is located at the intersection of the European, Asian and African continents, it possesses a strategic location for the logistics sector. Turkey has been a leading country in the region for centuries. Another significant advantage of Turkey in terms of logistics sector is that it geographically provides all types of transportation i.e. air, sea, land transportation. Furthermore, it offers integrated transportation modes (intermodal, multimodal and combined) among the aforementioned types of transportation. Thus, due to its geographical situation Turkey is a focal point in the field of logistics. Despite the fact that Turkey bears too many geographical advantages and potential in terms of logistics, it is hard to say that it can benefit from all the aforementioned advantages. On the contrary, Turkey suffers from several and serious setbacks in the field of logistics. First of the problems Turkey faces in the logistics sector is the unequal distribution of transportation modes used for logistics services. Although Turkey has the potential of using all modes of transportation for logistics services it mainly uses land transportation, the share of which reaches up to 90%. Another major challenge for the logistics sector in Turkey is the lack of adequate technical knowledge regarding the sector. In the field of logistics Turkey also suffers from the lack of contemporary systems and criteria for accreditation, certification and standardisation. The other main challenge is setbacks regarding the cooperation, coordination among the actors of the sector. In order to be able to overcome these problems, first of all the Customs Union Law No. 4458 should be revised and it should be compatible with the relevant law of the EU. As another problem of the Turkish logistics sector in international markets is overvaluation of the Turkish Lira, the rates of interest should be cut and structural reforms should be immediately put in to effect in order to provide direct investment support.
