ÖZET FİLM SESİNDE SHEPARD TONU İLLÜZYONU KULLANIMI Ekin KARAMAN Ses Teknolojileri Tez Danışmanı: Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Taylan Özdemir II. Tez Danışmanı: Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Yahya Burak Tamer Mayıs 2018, 51 sayfa Filmlerde hikaye anlatımı kadar önemli olan diğer unsurlar da ses tasarımı ve müzikleridir. Shepard Tonu illüzyonu da filmlerde ses kuşağında kullanıldığında izleyici üzerinde belirgin bir etki yaratmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı bu etkiyi mercek altına almaktır. Bilişsel bilimler alanında çalışmalar yapan Roger Shephard'ın 1964 yılında bulduğu Shepard Tonu bir çok psikolojik deneyde kullanılmış ve zaman içerisinde çeşitli müzik alanlarında, oyunlarda, görsel sahne işlerinde, danslarda ve bir çok filmde kendisine yer bulmuştur. Bu çalışma kapsamında incelediğim altı filmin ses kuşağında kullanılan Shepard Tonu'nun analizi yapılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda incelenen film sahnelerinde kullanılan Shepard Tonu'nun partisyon ve spektrogramı oluşturulmuş, incelenmiş ve şekil olarak gösterilmiştir. İncelenen partisyon ve spektrogramlar ile film ses kuşağında kullanılan tüm Shepard Tonları'nın çıkıcı olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Ulaşılan bu sonuçlar ile araştırmacıların yaptıkları deneylerin sonuçları karşılaştırılarak tonun insanlar üzerindeki psikolojik etkilerinin nasıl olduğu incelenmiştir. Daha önceki araştırmalarda Shepard Tonu'nun kişide yarattığı denge bozukluğu hissi çoğunlukla düşme hissi ile ilişkilendirilmiş ve iyi bir deneyim olmadığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. İncelenen filmler Chion'un çalışmalarındaki bakış açısı ile de değerlendirilmiş ve sesin görüntüdeki zaman ve hareket algısı üzerindeki etkileri ele alınmıştır. Ele alınan altı filmdeki on bir sahne incelenmiştir. Bu filmlerin ses kuşağında karşılaştığımız Shepard Tonu'nun dokuz tanesi hikaye dünyasına ait olmayan korku, heyecan, belirsizlik gibi duygu durumlarına eşlik için kullanılırken, iki tanesi motosiklet, uzay gemisi gibi taşıtların sesleri olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Tezde, sinemada hangi durumlarda Shepard Tonu kullanılacağı incelenmiş, kişide yarattığı psikolojik etkiler ile ilgili sahnelerde izleyici üzerinde oluşturulmaya çalışılan gerilim, heyecan, belirsizlik gibi olumsuz duygular arasındaki ilişki açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Prof. Yahya Burak Tamer Mayıs 2018, 51 pages This thesis examines the Shepard Tonu illusion used in the film sound. Sound design and music are other factors that are as important as storytelling in movies. The illusion of Shepard Tonu also has a noticeable effect on the audience when used in sound genres in films. The main aim of this study is to take this effect into consideration. Shepard Tonu, found in 1964 by Roger Shephard, who worked in the field of cognitive science, has been used in many psychological experiments and over time has found itself in various music fields, games, visual stage work, dancing and in many films. In this study, the analysis of the Shepard Tone used in the six films voices I have examined. The partition and spectrogram of the Shepard Tone used in the film scenes examined in this direction was created, examined and shown as a figure. It has been observed that all of the Shepard tones used in the film sound band are evident with the analyzed partitions and spectrograms. These results are compared with the results of experiments conducted by researchers to determine the psychological effects of tonnes on humans. In previous researches, Shepard Tone's impaired balance, which was created by the person, was often associated with a sense of falling and not a good experience. The films examined were also evaluated by Chion's point of view of his work and the effects of the voice on the time and motion perception in the picture are discussed. Eleven scenes from six films were examined. Nine of the Shepard Tones we have encountered on the voices of these films are used to accompany emotions such as fear, excitement, uncertainty that are not related to the story world, while two of them are voices of vehicles such as motorcycles and spaceships. In the thesis, in which case the use of Shepard Tone is examined in the cinema and the relationship between the negative emotions such as tension, excitement and uncertainty tried to be formed on the audience in the scenes about the psychological effects created by the person is tried to be explained.
