Özet
Modernizm, Batı Avrupa'nın ekonomik, sosyal, siyasal değişme ve dönüşme sürecini anlatan bir kavramdır. Tarıma dayalı, geleneksel feodal yapıyı değiştiren modernizm süreci sonucunda, sanayi üretimine dayalı farklı bir toplum yapısı ortaya çıkmıştır. Batı'nın modernleşme sürecinin gelişmişlik ve kalkınmışlıkla sonuçlanması ise, onu Batı dışı toplumlar için bir model haline getirmiştir. Uzun bir süre Batı karşısında üstünlüğünü koruyan Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun toprak kaybetmeye ve Batı karşısında gerilemeye başlaması da Osmanlı'nın Batı'yı model alması ile sonuçlanmıştır. Osmanlı'nın Batı'yı model olarak alması ilk olarak askeri alanda söz konusu olsa da, zamanla diğer kurumlarda olduğu gibi eğitim alanında da gerçekleşmiştir. Bu durum zamanla Batı tarzı bir eğitim anlayışının benimsenmesine ve yerleşmesine neden olmuştur. Batı tarzı eğitim kurumlarının tamamen benimsenmesi ise Cumhuriyet'e geçişle birlikte olmuştur. Bu tezimizde Osmanlı'nın modernleşme sürecinde ve II. Abdülhamid döneminde eğitimin yeri ve rolü ele alınmıştır.

Modernism is a concept that describes the process of economic, social, political change and transformation of Western Europe. As a consequence of the process of modernism, which has transformed from being traditional to feudal, a different society structure based on industrial production has emerged. The process of modernization of the West, with its development and development, has made it a model for non-Western societies. The fact that the Ottoman Empire, which had maintained its dominance over the West for a long time, lost land and began to decline against the West resulted in the Ottomans taking the West as a model. The Ottomans took the West as a model, even though the military field was the first one, but also in education as it was in other institutions over time. This led to the adoption and settlement of Western-style education in time. The full adoption of Western-style educational institutions has been accompanied by the transition to the Republic. In this thesis, in the modernization process of the Ottoman Empire and in the II. The place and role of education in the period of Abdülhamid were discussed.
