Özet (Çeviri)
This empirical research study investigated the creative function of second language writing by examining second language writers' insights, mindsets and perceptions regarding the use of the poetic function of language among multilingual writers who use English as their second or third language. The purpose of this research study was to advance our understanding on how second language writers use creative elements in their writing in order to help language learners to become better writers. The research subjects in this study were all doctoral students in an English Department that had the chance to use the creative function of language as part of their course requirements in their degree programs. The research participants in this study were asked series of interview questions that gave them a voice to reflect on their actual language learning experiences that focused on using the poetic function of language. Data collection process involved three significant empirical approaches: (1) all the participants' self-analysis of their language learning journeys were reported regarding their cultural, historical and social background and how they bring these experiences to college classrooms; (2) all the participants' experiences on using the creative function of language during their doctoral program have been analyzed in terms of their contextual, stylistic and functional self-expressions; (3) the collected data were categorized based on a coding system that occurred as a result of analytical and linguistic frequency of the thematic relationships that were presented by the participants' self-expressions. This empirical study revealed that using the poetic function of language has changed the participants' overall approach to writing, and they experienced progress in their writing style. The findings of this research study suggested that current language teaching methods lacked creativity, and the way second language learners taught writing should be changed, and this study should serve as a rationale to use the poetic function of language as a teaching pedagogy in language learning programs.
