Özet
Türkiye'de, Cumhuriyet dönemi tarihçiliği üzerine yapılan çalışmaların ekseriyeti siyaset odaklıdır. Siyaset tarihinde dönemler parti programları, seçim analizleri, üye sayıları, anayasal düzenlemeler üzerinden açıklanmaktadır. Siyaset tarihine, yalın siyasi olayların dışında kalan araç ve kavramlarla da yaklaşılabileceği fikriyle bir dönem okuması yapılacaktır. Fotoğraflar da çoğu zaman siyaset tarihi içinde hem devletlerin hem de bireylerin politik bir enstrümanı olarak kullanılmıştır. Ve bu fotoğraflar bize kendi dönemi hakkında birçok şey söyleyebilir. Türkiye Cumhuriyet tarihinin kurucu isimleri arasında olan İsmet İnönü, Celal Bayar ve Adnan Menderes'in 1946-1960 arasında gazete aracılığı ile dolaşıma sokulan fotoğrafları bu tezin birincil kaynağı olmuştur. Bu görseller merkez siyaseti temsil eden Cumhuriyet gazetesinden alınmıştır. Tez, bahsi geçen üç ismin siyaset içinde temsil ettikleri pozisyonlara, bu pozisyonların çok partili sistem içindeki değişimine ve her üç ismin kitle karşısındaki görünürlüğüne odaklanmıştır.

This thesis will focus on the three presidents and prime ministers in the multi-party period in Turkey: İsmet İnönü, Celal Bayar, and Adnan Menderes. The thesis will specifically look at their visual representation. In Turkey, most of the studies on the historiography of the Republic period are based on politics. The periods of political history are explained with the party programs, election analyses, number of members, and constitutional regulations. The thesis will provide a reading of a certain period from the perspective of approaching the political history with instruments and concepts that stay outside of the political incidents. In the history of politics, photographs are used mostly as a political instrument of the states and the individuals. And, these photographs can tell us lots of things about the periods. The primary sources of this thesis are photographs, which were distributed by the newspapers, and which are photographs of the founder names of the Turkish Republic; İsmet İnönü, Celal Bayar and Adnan Menderes in the period between 1946 and 1960. Those visuals are provided from the Cumhuriyet newspaper, which represents the dominant political system in that time. This thesis focuses on the positions of the aforementioned names in the politics, the changes of these positions in the multi-party period, and the visibility of those names in front of the masses.
