Özet (Çeviri)

Background The processes run by companies or organisations can have a negative effect on environment. The green sustainable situation gets affected negatively by the trade system which increasingly demands more natural sources. This trend is as much visible in terminal ports as any other business environment. Therefore, this research work finds out about the environmental issues at the port terminals posing not only health hazards for the people but also for posing business challenges. Justification of research While the literature has talked about sustainable and green port criteria, there is a gap in the literature about the green container port terminal criteria. Furthermore, the concept of green container port terminal is a new one in Turkey. This research work explores this new concept in Turkey and chooses Turkey as the location for primary data collection. Turkey is also interesting because a new government lagistation gives incentives to container ports for signing up to the green initiative. The literature is studied extensively in order to find parallels between the criteria previously mentioned by researchers about the sustainable green ports and the new area of green container port terminal. This i\znformation is sued to develp a framework for primary data collection. Purpose The purpose of this research is to enhance our understanding on environmental approach in green container development in ports. As critical realists would argue, new interpretations might set the wheels in motion for change and development (Bryman and Bell, 2007). This study makes contributions to our knowledge on green sustainable container terminal management. This study is potentially significant for practitioners as well as academics. In terms of academic perspective, this study is likely to demonstrate an understanding of environmental container terminal management. Due to this reason many researches had explained the sustainability issues on ports. However, there is no focus on green container terminal management in the literature. In practice, since this study took place in Turkey, it may potentially be very important because it might guide and raise awareness of environment to employees working in this area. 4 Design/methodology/approach This research work takes a qualitative research approach with semi-structured interviews conducted involving eith participants. Four of the participants are experts in the field of green ports and environmental sustainability while the other four participants are people who are living and working in the green container terminal ports in Turkey. Findings The findings of this research set the criteria for green container terminal ports. The highest rated criteria are air pollution, solid waste management and solid contamination, Water pollution and water quality and fuel spilling contingency plan. However, there are other six criteria found from the literature which are not rated higher by the research participants. This helps the future adopters of green container terminals to focus on these cirteria when taking a green initiative.
