This dissertation mainly attempts to analyse the relations and implementations of psychology with literature by implementing Freudian theories and criticism, and tries to bring the concepts of Freudian criticism into light in the novels of Doris Lessing, and Kate Chopin. The first chapter of the dissertation makes the purpose of the study clear and provides an overview of the relations and implementations between the fields of psychology and literature both in the past and the present time. Then it briefly gives background information regarding the concepts and theories of Freud as well as the relations and implementations of these theories and concepts with the themes, which are coped with in the above mentioned novels of the writers in question. The following chapter of the dissertation deals with the novels depending on the theories and concepts of Freud as follows:“the Oedipus Complex, Death Instincts, Unconscious, Id, Ego, and Superego”, and thus the dissertation primarily concentrates on the hidden feelings of the protagonists and most significantly their struggle at the turn of the twentieth and the twentieth century world. Via and upon the analyses of the protagonists, the dissertation claims that Freud has been a very important, an influential figure and played a crucial role for the works of different authors in different countries, and cultures, reinforcing the idea of the universality of his psychoanalytical theories and concepts.
