ERAS grup hastaların 39'u (%79,6) kadın, 10'u (%20,4) erkek olup; Geleneksel grup hastaların 41'i (%87,2) kadın, 6'sı (%12,8) erkek idi. ERAS grup hastaların ortalama kilosu, ortalama boyu ve ortalama VKĠ değerleri sırasıyla 123,65±16,58 kg, 164,12±10,07 cm ve 45,51±3,75 kg/m2 saptanırken Geleneksel grup hastalarınki sırasıyla 121,11±16,80 kg, 161,55±9,31 cm ve 45,83±5,88 kg/m2 saptandı. Hastalar hastanede kalıĢ süreleri bakımından incelendiğinde; ERAS grup hastalar 30,46±11,26 saat yatarken geleneksel grup hastalar 52,02±6,63 saat hastanede yatmıĢtır (p:0,001). Hastaların taburculuk sonrası ilk 30 gün içerisindeki acil servis baĢvuruları incelendiğinde ERAS grup hastaların 5'i(%10,3) baĢvururken, geleneksel grup hastaların 3'ü(%6,4) acil servise baĢvurmuĢtur (p:0,498).
Introduction/Aim: Obesity, a fundamental problem on its own, aggravates many comorbidities, and the number of obese people is increasing rapidly. Sleeve gastrectomy is the most common method applied for obesity treatment. The ERAS protocol aims faster patient discharge without increasing mortality and morbidity in patients. This study aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of the ERAS protocol in patients who underwent sleeve gastrectomy. Materials/Methods: Patients with a BMI≥35 kg/m2, aged ≥18 years, who underwent sleeve gastrectomy in the general surgery department of our hospital between January 2020 and March 2021 were included in the study. Their age, gender, ASA, weight, height, BMI, comorbidities, smoking status, anesthesia drugs used, anesthesia induction times, surgery times, recovery times, nausea-vomiting, and pain scores between postoperative 2nd-12th days and at discharge, length of hospital stay, and emergency room admissions within the first 30 days were prospectively analyzed. Patients were randomized into those who underwent the ERAS protocol and those who received the traditional treatment. The groups were compared in terms of length of hospital stay, duration of surgery, VAS scores, PONV effect scores and emergency service admissions within the first 30 days after surgery. Results: A total of 96 patients who underwent sleeve gastrectomy for morbid obesity were included in this study. Of these, 49 (51%) were in the ERAS protocol group and 47 (49%) were in the traditional treatment group. The mean ages of the patients in the ERAS and traditional treatment groups were 37.47±10.11 years, and 35.77±9.62 years, respectively. Of the ERAS group patients, 39 (79.6%) were female and 10 (20.4%) were male. In the traditional group, 41 (87.2%) patients were female and 6 (12.8%) were male. While the mean weight, mean height and mean BMI values of the ERAS group patients were 123.65±16.58 kg, 164.12±10.07 cm and 45.51±3.75 kg/m2, respectively, those of the traditional group were 121.11±3.75 kg, 161.55±9.31 cm, and 45.83±5.88 kg/m2, respectively. The ERAS group patients were hospitalized for a mean of 30.46±11.26 hours, and the traditional group was hospitalized for a mean of 52.02±6.63 hours (p:0.001). Five (10.3%) of the ERAS group patients and 3 (6.4%) of the traditional group patients visited the emergency department (p:0.498) within the first 30 days of discharge. Both VAS and PONV effect scores at the 2nd xi and 12th hours of the ERAS group patients were lower (p:0.001, 0.002, 0.001, 0.001, respectively). Conclusion: The ERAS protocol shortened the hospitalization duration of the patients and decreased the postoperative nausea-vomiting and pain scores. The application of the ERAS protocol in patients who are scheduled to undergo LSG does not increase postoperative emergency department admissions. The ERAS protocol can be used safely and effectively in patients undergoing sleeve gastrectomy.
