The role of conscious cognitive process in human evaluative conditioning remains controversial. Several theories argue that evaluative conditioning acquire without contingency awareness. The present thesis examines the ability to learn associations between unconsciously presented visual stimuli and positive or negative tastes. Using the continuous flash suppression paradigm, it has been evaluated the acquisition of an association between shapes and their paired taste by assessing the rated pleasantness of the previously subliminally presented stimuli and examining reaction times during the training phase. Analysis revealed that the participants could not have discriminated the associations due to whether positive or negative taste. The evidence of the contingency awareness is discussed throughout the thesis.
