In this dissertation, we will examine one particular conception of (in)consistency, the different factors contributing to it in relation to the European Court of Human Rights judgments, and two ideal frameworks of case and argumentative structures devoted to the elimination of it in this context. To that end, in Chapter I, a conception of consistency that is connected to the idea of an audience will be illustrated and contextualized with a view to limit the scope of inquiry for the purposes of this dissertation. In the second Chapter, the different places where inconsistency understood as such is concretized and intensified in the decision and argument structure of the Court are to be reviewed. In the last Chapter, two ideal frameworks of consistency will be illustrated.
