The major aim of this dissertation is to conduct an empirical investigation into the impact of life expectancy on economic performance in 106 developing countries between 1990 and 2014. Solow growth model is used to derive variables in order to find main indicators of economic growth within derived variables. In that period of time, life expectancy has a positive, significant effect on population, health expenditure and human capital. The study finds that a 1 percent improvement in life expectancy leads to a 0.18 – 1.39 percent increase in income per capita across the base sample during the sample period. Life expectancy has a much greater effect on income per capita in Asia and high income countries when the base sample is split into continental and income groups. Consequently, it may be evidence that economic performance is associated with improvement in health status, a conclusion which could be considered by policymakers in developing countries.
