In this study, the literature on the theory and practice of the Venture Capital finance is reviewed. In financial markets, financial frictions such as principal-agent problems and information asymmetries make it harder for entrepreneurial firms to get financing. Specific screening, monitoring and contracting aspects of VC finance is suggested to be suitable to overcome principle-agent and information problems. Moreover, the determinants behind VC investments were investigated. Using annual VC investments data for 35 countries between 207 and 2017 it was found that investor protection level, capital market activity, and domestic RD investments are positively associated with VC investments per GDP. Hence, the negative association of strictness of labour laws and share of banking sector financing with VC investments per GDP was shown
