The aim of this thesis is to investigate the distribution of the logarithm of the Riemann zeta-function ζ(s) near nontrivial zeros of the Riemann zetafunction. We consider the sequences (log|ζ(ρ + z)|) and (arg ζ(ρ + z)), where ρ runs over nontrivial zeros of the Riemann zeta-function, 0 < =ρ ≤ T for a sufficiently large T, and z = u + iv is a nonzero complex number of sufficiently small modulus. We establish that as T → ∞, the sequence (log |ζ(ρ + z)|) has an approximate Gaussian distribution under the assumption of the Riemann hypothesis and Montgomery's Pair Correlation Conjecture. In the case of (arg ζ(ρ+z)), the sole assumption of the Riemann hypothesis is sufficient to obtain such a result. Our results can be viewed as a discrete version of Selberg's central limit theorem that is valid over a (slightly) shifted sequence of nontrivial zeros of the zetafunction. Our result for (log|ζ(ρ + z)|) is uniform in u = <z. When we choose v = =z = 0, and then let u tend to 0 from the right, we obtain a central limit theorem for the sequence (log (|ζ 0 (ρ)|/log T)) under the additional condition that all zeros of the Riemann zeta-function are simple. Indeed, ix we are able to replace Montgomery's Pair Correlation Conjecture by a weaker zero-spacing hypothesis. This improves an earlier result of Hejhal by providing his central limit theorem for (log (|ζ 0 (ρ)|/log T)) with a rate of convergence.
