As the title suggests, this dissertation deals with phraseology as part of linguistics and the conceptual motivation of idioms with a practical case study on teaching heart idioms through the cognitive method.“ Phraseological units absorb values of ages in which they live. (…) they demonstrate the interrelation between the language and the society (…) because they encapsulate a national, country's cultural outlook”( Zerkina and Kostina, 2015:1). Thus, phraseology differs from country to country and from language to language, but there are also phraseological concepts general valid all over the world. As time goes by, people invent new phraseological units because they have to keep pace with the technological development, social context, media and internet terminology etc. The advent of internet in our lives has created a totally new vocabulary. This new approach to phraseology is very popular today especially among young generation. Therefore, I consider this a very important reason for choosing this topic for my disquisition. Moreover, I come in contact every day at my work place with native speakers of English language. They use a lot of phraseological units in their speaking, so in order to understand them one must study phraseology ( idioms, metaphors, phrasal verbs ). In addition, as an ESL teacher I feel the need to understand idioms and to be able to explain and teach them successfully to my students. People use idioms to give glamour to language and in the same time to intensify and express the best their feelings, emotions, judgments, impressions etc
