Özet (Çeviri)
The Suez crisis of 1956 played a crucial role for the creation of the new world order after the Second World War. This dissertation analyses the subject in regional perspective and focuses on what this period of history meant for the Middle Eastern powers rather than the parties of conflict or the superpowers. The study details the diplomacy of regional powers throughout the period, as well as the developments that brought them to their positions and the impact of their policies on the aftermath of the crisis. In the introduction, a general information about the contents of essential studies related to the subject is given. The literature review of the subject ascertains the fact that the Suez policy of regional powers is not studied in detail. In the second chapter, attitudes of the regional states during the creation of the Baghdad Pact and their policies after the nationalisation of the Suez Canal is analysed. The third chapter is about how these states reacted to the parties when the crisis became war and when the conflicts ended. Foreign Office Records of these states within the subject's period are scanned and their relevant statements, interviews and communiques are analysed to find out their reactions towards the crisis. The final chapter makes an overall argument of the regional powers' general position throughout the entire period and talks about the results of the analysis. Based on the main questions, the research found that the will of regional dominance, dynastic rivalries and religious conflicts in the region mainly affected the positions of regional powers during the period. The analysis also inferred that the extent of Middle Eastern powers' support for Egypt and their positive approach towards the US – in general – had a considerable impact on the post-Suez balance of power in the region
