This dissertation explores the spatial considerations that affect the curatorial process in the case of Istanbul Biennials. Using case study design and utilizing qualitative content analysis and qualitative interviewing, this study suggests that under the scope of spatiality, architectural limitation was one of the most important elements that affects the curatorial decisions in the case of Istanbul Biennials while the promotion of Istanbul and its cultural heritage; the selection of the artist and their artworks, politics and localism were also effective elements. However, through this research it has been found that while the promotion of Istanbul and its cultural heritage; the selection of the artist and their artworks were not loosing their importance according to early biennials, but on the contrary, politics were becoming more effective while the importance of localism stays unclear on the curatorial process.
