Özet
Yavuz Sultan Selim, diğer Osmanlı padişahlarından farklı olarak batıya değil, doğu'ya yönelmiştir. Doğu sınırlarını güvenlik altına aldıktan sonra batı'ya bir sefer hazırlığındayken, ömrü yetişmemiştir. Ama Yavuz kendisinden sonra gelenlere dolu bir hazine ve yalnızca batı ile ilgilenebilecekleri bir ortam bırakmıştır. Osmanlı ordusunun o çağın ilkel araç ve gereçleriyle o günkü yol koşulları içinde İstanbul ve Rumeli'den Kahire'ye ulaşan uzun yürüyüşlerinin, özellikleri Sina Çölünü başarı ile geçişi o dönem Türk Tarihi açısından büyük önem taşır. İran Seferi'nde Çaldıran (1514) zaferi ile Osmanlı Devleti'nin doğu sınırlarını güvence altına alan Şii'lik akımının gelişmesini önleyen Yavuz Sultan Selim, Mısır Seferi'nde ise Mercidabık (1516) ve Ridaniye (1517) meydan muharebeleriyle de iki büyük zafer daha kazanmıştır. Bu zaferlerle Mısır Memlûk Devleti ortadan kaldırılmış ve devletin güneydoğu sınırları da güvenlik altına alınmıştır. Mısır Seferinden sonra üç kıtada yerleşen ve Türk-İslam birliği ile de daha etkinlik kazanan Osmanlı İmparatorluğu, bundan böyle belirttiğimiz gibi batıda yapılacak harekat için serbest kalma olanağını bulmuştu. Zengin Mısır toprakları ise devletin ekonomik gücünün artmasında ve batıdaki harekatın desteklenmesinde önemli bir etken olmuştur.

Yavuz Sultan Selim was different from other Ottoman padishahs in that he chose to head towards not to the west but to the east But after securing east boundaries, while he was in preparation of military expendition to the west he died. However, he bequeathed a full treasure to his successors and an atmosphere for them to be interested only in the west Ottoman Army's long-lasting marchings from Istanbul and Roumelia to Cairo with that era's primitive tools and equipments, especially its crossing desert sina haue great importance on that period's Turkish History. Yavuz Sultan Selim preventing the Shi'i movement from expansion and thus securing east boundaries of Ottoman Empire with Çaldıran (1514) victory within Iran expedition, he gained two great victories with Mercidabik (1516) and Ridaniye (151 7) bitched battles within Egypt Expedition, With these victories Egypt Memlûk state was removed and south-east boundaries of the Empire were secured. Ottoman Empire, which got established in three continent after Egypt expedition and which became more active with the unity of Turkish-Islam, as we stated afore, got the opportunity to be free for the expedition to be made to the west On the other hand, fertile Egypt lands were important factors increasing the state's economic power and supporting the operation to the west.
