Özet
ÖZET Bu çalışmada, Batı'da gelişen sanayi ideolojisinin kurumlan ve temel değerlerinin oluşturduğu, kapitalist sistemin güçlendirdiği tüketim olgusu konusu incelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Tüketim eyleminin yanlızca biyolojik ihtiyaçları gidermek için yapılan bir eylem olmadığı ve bir kültür süreci haline gelmesi üzerinde durulmuştur. Çalışmada, artan üretim ve tüketimin nedenleri ve sonuçları üzerinde durulmuş, bir süreç içinde tüketim toplumunu yaratan olgular ve bu topluma karşı oluşan tepkilerin ya da oluşan çevre bilincinin hangi kapsamda ve boyutta olduğu tesbit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu çalışmayla amacımız, insanların gerçek ihtiyaçlarının ötesinde arzularını karşıladığı düşünülen bugünkü tüketim anlayışının, olumsuz bir takım sonuçlarının olduğunu ortaya koymak ve bu olumsuz sonuçların da şimdi ya da yakın gelecekte daha büyük sorunlarla karşı karşıya kalabileceğimiz düşüncesinden kaynaklanmaktadır. Çalışmanın birinci bölümünde; tüketim toplumunu yaratan süreçler ortaya konulmaya ve tartışılmaya çalışılmıştır. İkinci bölümde ise, kapitalist toplumlarda oluşan tüketim kültürü ele alınmış ve kapitalist toplumların özellikleri irdelenmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde, tüketim toplumuna tepki olarak çevre bilincinin oluşumu ve gelişim seyri incelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Sonuç ve değerlendirme bölümünde ise, genel olarak tüketimle birlikte bir çığ gibi büyüyen sorunların dünyanın geleceği açısından getirdiği sonuçlar tartışılmış ve değerlendirilmiştir.

SUMMARY In this study, we focus on the“consumption”as a phenomena which is constitued by developing western industrial ideology and its basic values and which is empowered by the capitalist system itself. We emphasize on the consumption activity explaining that it is not only a consequense of bioloqical needs but the consumption activity itself is a process of“culture”We try to make clear the reasons and consequences of increasing production and consumption. We explain the content and dimensions of the phenomena that create the consumption society the reactions against this society and the environmental consciousness. Our aim in this study is making clear that the existing the concept of consumtion -that is claimed that it gives answer to the human pleasures below their real needs- has negative consequences. This belief in negativity is based on the increasing problems oceurs as a result of consumption today and in the hear future. The processes creating the consumption society in the first chapter the thesis, in the second chapter the consumption culture within the capitalist societies and characteristics of capitalist society is overviewed. The formation of enviromental consciousness as a reaction against the consumption society and its development is stuied in the third part; and as a conclusion the problems increasing together with the consumption and their consequences for the future of the world is argued and analysed.
