Özet (Çeviri)
This study was set to explore the link between two essential phenomenon, the“greed”and“grievance”concepts, that have remarkable contributions in addressing the questions of what makes a country more prone to civil war or any other type of violent conflict. Although the extensive academic literature and debates concerning civil war and conflicts have tended to frame greed and grievance concepts in conflicting and opposing ways that have facilitated the“greed versus grievance”dichotomy, our argument in here is that the“either greed or grievance”approach cannot exclusively explain the motivations behind the modern civil wars and conflicts since both concepts influence one another to some extent. At this point, a“Greed-Grievance Nexus”framework appears to be more comprehensive analytical tool for examining the complex dynamics behind the civil conflicts, as such in Iraq in the postSaddam era. In this context, Iraq's post-Saddam Sunni insurgency and following civil war has been evaluated within the scope of de-Ba'athification, sectarianism and Arab spring through the lens of Greed-Grievance Nexus. It has been asserted that the dismantling of Ba'ath Party and military via the de-Ba'athification programme destroyed the Iraqi state institutions, and reduced the state's capacity to provide basic public services and security, which engendered the creation of a fertile environment for insurgent groups to expand their influence and challenge the state authority in many ways. The de-Ba'athification programme has been perceived as a“de-Sunnification”process among the Sunni community, which have created politically, socially and economically alienated and marginalized population that made them target for insurgency groups such as ISIS.
